Kevin A. Morrison is a scholar, academic leader, and filmmaker whose work brings together literary studies, media history, and global cultural history. He currently serves as Mingde Distinguished Professor of British Literature and Humanities at Henan University, where he directs the Institute for World Literature. He has held academic appointments in the United States, Singapore, and China.

 

His research examines how literary texts, ideas, and cultural forms move through the world. It explores the conditions that shape their emergence, the routes through which they circulate across nations, languages, institutions, and media, and the ways they are reinterpreted, adapted, and transformed. Taken together, his scholarship charts an intellectual trajectory from the material environments of Victorian liberalism and the literary geography of the English provinces to broader questions of global circulation, cultural transmission, and the institutional life of literature.

Kevin is founding president of the Society for Global Nineteenth-Century Studies (SGNCS), a geographically and disciplinarily diverse network of scholars focused on the world’s interconnectedness between 1750 and 1914. He edits the society’s journal, Global Nineteenth-Century Studies, and co-edits its book series, Studies in the Global Nineteenth Century, with Liverpool University Press. He also serves as book series editor of Anthem Impact in Victorian Popular Fiction, a general editor of the journal Cultural History, and on the editorial and advisory boards of several journals and book series.

He has secured more than $620,000 USD in competitive research funding from foundations, libraries, universities, and government agencies including the American Philosophical Society, the New York Public Library, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. His work has been recognized through election to the Royal Asiatic Society, the Royal Society of Arts, and the Royal Historical Society. He has twice served as the Lynn Wood Neag Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut and as a visiting fellow at the National University of Singapore.

Beyond his own research, Kevin has founded scholarly organizations, directed research institutes, developed interdisciplinary academic programs, and organized international conferences and symposia across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Throughout his career, he has focused on building intellectual communities and expanding opportunities for collaboration across disciplines, institutions, and national boundaries.

His work in film is animated by many of the same intellectual interests as his scholarship, but pursued through a different medium. He has written and produced several short films screened internationally and recently wrote and directed the feature film Hucksters.

An award-winning teacher and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE), Kevin has also published on higher education, curriculum design, and pedagogy, reflecting his broader interest in how knowledge is created, communicated, and shared.
